Climate Research
I am working as a postdoctoral researcher in the Applied Climate Sciences Lab at the University of Idaho under Dr. John Abatzoglou.
Climate Downscaling
We have two current projects related to the downscaling of climate data:
  • MACA: We have completed the statistical downscaling of 20 global climate models (GCMs) from CMIP5 utilizing the Multivariate Adaptive Constructed Analogs(MACA, Abatzoglou and Brown, 2011) statistical downscaling method.
  • NMME Forecasts: We have automated the monthly downscaling of 7 model forecasts from NOAAs CPCs North American Multi-Model Ensemble(NMME) project and the providing of web tools to aid in the accessibility/visualization of this dataset.
Climate Web Tools
We have some current projects related to developing web tools on climate:
  • Climate Engine: visualizing historical meteorology and remote sensing datasets from the Google Cloud using Google Earth Engine
  • REACCH: web tools for wheat growers under the Regional Approaches to Climate Change (REACCH) project
  • Integrated Scenarios: creating web tools to aid in the accessibility of the data from the Integrated Scenarios of the Future Northwest Environment Project
  • Precision Grazing: creating a web tool which accesses Landsat remote sensing data from the Google Cloud and applies a model for vegetation height and biomass to look at rangeland grazing effects on optimization of grazing on lands for the Nature Conservancy.
